Crime alert: Theft of diesel particulate filters

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a vehicle exhaust aftertreatment device

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a vehicle exhaust aftertreatment device that traps particulate matter such as soot and ash.

Since the start of the year, there have been 18 reports relating to the theft of DPFs across Queensland.

The majority of these reports involve theft from trucks, notably Isuzu make.

The top five Police Divisions where offences were Crestmead (4); Boondall (3); Albany Creek (2); Hendra (2) and Browns Plains (1). Of the total offences, 16 occurred from May 20 to May 26.

Most targeted vehicles were parked on the street (12) and at businesses with open carparks (6).

In all offences, angle grinders were used to remove the parts.

Scrap metal dealers have been notified of this surge in thefts and will report attempts to sell stolen DPFs or other metals to police.

Police from North Brisbane will be increasing their patrols based on intelligence around this crime alert, and are asking members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour to Policelink.
