Witnesses interrupt North Haven catalytic converter thefts, police say

Two separate armed catalytic converter thefts were interrupted by witnesses

Two separate armed catalytic converter thefts were interrupted by witnesses Wednesday night, according to North Haven police.

NORTH HAVEN — Witnesses interrupted two separate armed catalytic converter thefts within 45 minutes of each other Wednesday night, according to local police.

North Haven police said in a Facebook post that the first of the attempted thefts occurred in the 100 block of State Street at 9:15 p.m. Noticing a male suspect was attempting to cut the catalytic converter out of a car in the parking lot, a witness confronted the suspect, according to police. He displayed a handgun before fleeing the scene, police said.

Police said the second attempted theft occurred in the 350 block of Universal Drive at 10 p.m. Two male suspects were caught in the act of cutting the catalytic converter out of a car in the parking lot by a witness, according to police. One of the suspects pointed a saw at the witness before fleeing the scene in a small silver sedan, police said.
